Former USC Assistant Hired By USM

posted by Brian Shoemaker, Friday, July 20, 2007

As first reported by EagleTalk.net, the Southern Miss site on Rivals.com, former South Carolina assistant Dave Wommack has been hired by Southern Miss. USM issued a press release this afternoon to announce the hiring.

Wommack replaces Fred Tate, who resigned earlier this week for personal reasons. Wommack coached the USC secondary in 2005 and outside linebackers in 2006. His contract was not renewed by USC following the 2006 season.

In case you missed it, Tony Morrell, GamecockCentral.com's football insider and recruiting analyst, was a guest on Rivals Radio in late June to discuss the Gamecock football team. You can listen to the segment now by clicking here. Please note that the interview took place before Eric Baker's academic status for the 2007 season was finalized.

Say goodbye to Street & Smith college football annuals. From a recent Florida Times-Union article:

"This is the last Street & Smith's annual. The magazine recently merged with The Sporting News and will publish in the future under that publication's banner, a development marking the end of a spring rite that many college football fans savored."
The first Street & Smith annual was published in 1940.
