Kickoff to "100 Years of Gamecock Basketball" Celebration

posted by Scott Hood, Friday, July 20, 2007

USC annnounced late Friday afternoon a public ceremony kicking off the season-long celebration of "100 Years of Gamecock Basketball" will be held on Tues, July 24 at 9 a.m. in the atrium of the Colonial Center.

The atrium is located just inside the front doors.

Several of the best players in USC history are expected to attend the ceremony, including John Roche, B.J. McKie, Kevin Joyce, Zam Fredrick and Bobby Cremins. In addition, Ronnie Collins, John Ribock, Corkey Carnevale, the widow of Grady Wallace and a representative of the Alex English family are also expected to attend.

Doors to the Colonial Center will open at 8 a.m. for fans who want to attend the ceremony. The first 50 fans through the doors will receive a lapel pin. Due to time constraints, no autographs will be allowed.

Following the public ceremony there will be a press conference at 9:30 a.m. in the Frank McGuire Room of the Colonial Center. The public is not allowed into the press conference.

The press conference will feature a number of former greats (Roche, McKie and Joyce are scheduled to speak), and will address plans for the "100 Years" Celebration reunion, Gamecock Greats program and the unveiling of the "100 Years" Logo.

An Alumni Basketball Game in February 2008 is planned.
