Some Gamecock football stats and facts

--- As you probably know already -- it was announced over a year ago -- Jamon Meredith will be suspended for the first two games of the 2008 season. When it was announced, most people figured Meredith would miss the Georgia game because it's always the second game of the year. But that won't be the case in 2008. Georgia is the third game of the year. NC State and Vandy are the first two games. Neither team, one would assume, will have a defensive line as good as Georgia. The scheduling worked out well for USC.
--- In this past Saturday's Georgia game, the USC defense had more starters from the state of Georgia (5) than the state of South Carolina (3).
The defensive starters from the Peach State were Eric Norwood, Ladi Ajiboye, Jasper Brinkley, Casper Brinkley and Carlos Thomas. The defensive starters from the Palmetto State were Nathan Pepper, Rodney Paulk and Brandon Isaac. Alabama wasn't far behind with two: Darian Stewart and Captain Munnerlyn. The other starter was Marque Hall (North Carolina).
In fact, the Gamecocks had more defensive starters from Georgia than the Bulldogs did. UGA only had four defensive starters from Georgia -- Roderick Battle, Brandon Miller, Darius Dewberry and Thomas Flowers.
--- Through two games, a closer look at the participation statistics...
