USC-College of Charleston Game Blog - Tue. 3/18

9:30 - Brandon Todd pitching for USC. 2 outs. USC has outhit COC 19-2. K. Game Over. USC Wins 13-1.

9:20 - ANOTHER HOME RUN BY DARNELL!! That's three tonight. He ties the school record. This one went to the opposite field. USC leads 13-1. We go to the bottom of the 9th.

9:15 - What a performance by Nick Godwin. He sets down COC in order again. That's 11in a row and 17 of 18. WE GO TO THE NINTH WITH USC LEADING 10-1.

9:10 - USC is out here in the T8. They scored once in the T8 to take a 10-1 lead. Godwin is still pitching for USC. He's allowed only 2 hits.

9:05 - Another HR by Darnell!! That's 4 hits tonight. He has 10 hits in the last 3 games. USC leads 10-1.

9:00 - Godwin sets down COC in order again in the 7th. He's retired 8 in a row. We go to the 8th with USC leading, 9-1. Darnell, Smoak and Enders due.

8:50 - 2-eun HR by Havens off the LF foul pole! Havens takes over the team lead with his 5th HR. He also has 27 RBI. USC leads 9-1 as we head to the B7. USC has 14 hits.

8:45 - COC down 1-2-3 in the B6. Godwin with a strong performance so far. USC leads 7-1 as we go to the T7.

8:35 - There's a long drive by Enders to lF. It's gone! Solo home run with 2 outs in the T6 makes it 7-1 USC. That's Enders' third HR of the season. We go to the B6 with USC leading 7-1.

8:30 - Darnell drives one deep to LF! It's well over the fence for a solo HR. That's his 3rd HR of the season and second in 3 games. USC leads 6-1. We have a pitching change for COC. USC has 12 hits. That's the first extra-base hit for USC tonight. They have 11 singles and Darnell's HR.

8:25 - Godwin only gives up a BB in the B5. We go to the T6 with USC still leading 5-1. Merrifield, Darnell and Smoak due.

8:17 - USC down in the T5. We go to the B5 with USC leading 5-1.

8:15 - Single by Mack. USC has 11 hits tonight. They're battering Lucchese. 2 outs, 1 runner on. Stolen base. Walk to Lail. Eunners on 1&2, 2 outs. Havens up.

8:10 - Crisp singles to RF to open the inning but he tries to stretch the hit into a 2B and he's thrown out 9-4. 1 out in the T5.

8:05 - COC out 1-2-3 in the 4th. F-7, K, F-8. We go to the T5 with USC leading, 5-1.

8:00 - USC has scored another run here in the T4, but they could have had more. Enders grounds into a 6-4-3 DP. USC had 3 hits and 2 walks in the inning but came away with just 1 run. Darnell had the EBI on a sinbgle. It's 5-1 USC as we go to the B4. Godwin still pitching for USC.

7:50 - COC scores a run in the B3 on a DP grounder. It's 4-1 USC as we go to the T4. Lail, Havens and Merrifield up. Infield single for Lail. USC has put the leadoff batter on base in 3 straight innings.

7:40 - Perrfectly executed hit-and-run single by Crisp gives USC runners at 1&3, 0 outs in T3. Mack up. He walked the last time. Dac. Fly to LF. That ball just carried and carried to the warning track. USC leads 4-0. Crisp caught stealing. Disker K's. We go to the B3 with USC leading 4-0.

7:35 - Mack makes a great throw from LF to gun down the COC runner trying to stretch a single into a double. That's it for COC in the B2. WE go to the T3 with USC leading, 3-0.

7:30 - USC has jumped to a 3-0 lead here in the T2. RBI single by Disher, RBI single by Havens and SF by Merrifield. Runners on 1&2, 2 outs. Smoak up. BTW, that's 25 RBI for Havens. Smoak K's. But a good innings for the Gamecocks. We go to the B2 with USC leading, 3-0.

7:20 - Crisp leads off the T2 with a single, extending his hitting streak to 10 games. Mack walks. Disher up. He's batting .211. Base hit to LF! Crisp scores. It's 1-0 USC.

7:15 - Godwin on the mound for USC. Good 1st inning. He easily sets down COC in order. F-7, 4-3, P-3. We go to the top of the 2nd with the game scoreless.

7:10 - USC is out in the top of the 1st. We go to the bottom half tied 0-0.

7:00 - We're underway at Patriots Point. Havens leads off. P-5. Merrifield out 1-3. Darnell reached on E6. 2 outs, runner on first. Smoak walks. 1&2. Enders up.

6:30 - We're here for tonight's USC-College of Charleston game at Patriots Point Park in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Here is tonight's starting lineup for the Gamecocks:

Havens - 6 (.382-4 HR-24 RBI)
Merrifield - 8 (.308-3-8)
Darnell - 5 (.290-2-20)
Smoak - 3 (.355-4-15)
Enders - 2 (.333-2-14)
Crisp - 4 (.333-0-7)
Mack - 7 (.375-2-5)
Disher - DH (.211-4-12)
Lail - 9 (.306-2-13)

Godwin - P (1-2, 4.40 ERA, 14.1 IP, 10 hits, 7 runs, 14 K, 4 BB).

COC is throwing a freshman RHP named Casey Lucchese. He's 2-0 with a 6.75 ERA. He's allowed 22 hits and 13 runs in 16.0 IP.
