7:00 PM - Awaiting the start of the show
FIRST SEGMENT: USC isn't too bad health-wise. USC has handled the flu bug better than most teams. Spurrier thanked the fans for their vocal support in last Thursday's game. Loudest stadium ever? Offense didn't do much. Defense and special teams performed well. McCollum has done most of the practicing this week. SOS wants him to play. garcia was fine on Thur. RM has had some good practices thsi week. Richardson has flue and a bad shoulder. Might need microscopic surgery on shoulder. Eckerson will start. Garrett Chisolm will play. He attended Pikeville College in Ky. for a year. He has talent, size, flexibility, strength. He will play right tackle. No. 77. Watch out for him.
SECOND SEGMENT: SC State has won their conference 2 years in a row. They're a tough, solid team all around. SC State is ranked ahead of USC in most special team categories. They've already run a TD back for TD. Both Culliver and Sherman will return kickoffs. Gilmore might help on punts. We have to get the ball in Gilmore's hands somehow. 2nd QB gets about 25 percent of the snaps at practice. 1st team gets 70 percent. Communication has been a problem between QB and other players. Who will be starting RB? Giles and Miles will play a lot early followed by Maddox. Giles only had 2 carries v. Ole Miss. Playing all of them until one emerges. SOS has told the coaches to play all three.
THIRD SEGMENT: Red zone offense has struggled. SOS said USC has had the ball 1st-and-goal at the 8,9 or 10 yard line too often. Almost better to have it at the 15. Haven't thrown many TD passes inside RZ. Encouraging SG to change the play to get out of bad plays. Poor red zone offense cost USC in UGA game. USC hasn't found the WR yet to runs slants and fades and get open. Alshon Jeffery could get more of a chance to play.
FOURTH SEGMENT: Spurrier recalled the 2007 USC-SC State game. Defense played very well. USC struggled throwing the ball and had four turnover. Nathan Pepper had a Pick-6 but suffered a season-ending knee injury after he crossed into the end zone. Hurry up offense? USC has had mixed results. Penalties for failing to line up right. How far is Norwood from NCAA sack record? He is 8th in SEC history. Spurrier and Lanning combined to pull a practical joke on ST coordinator Shane Beamer during Wednesday's practice. Eric Norwood's brother Erin plays for SC State. Who will replace Eric Norwood next year at OLB? Cliff Matthews had a fabulous game v. Ole Miss last week. Rodney Paulk will be back next year.
FIFTH SEGMENT: When pull starters out? Only when game is completely out of reach and outcome has been decided. Spurrier encourages backups to play well and not goof around when they're in the game. They tell the backups they'll have a chance to score in the normal course of the game. Will USC blowout SC State? Spurrier just wanst to win. McCollum has been involved in practice more than any other time thsi year. Garrett Chisolm is "The Man."
SIXTH SEGMENT: Jason Barnes will start at WR over Tori Gurley against SC State. Garcia had a lot of pressure on him last week. Discussion about shoulder stingers, which is the stretching of the nerve muscles extending from the neck to the shoulder.
SEVENTH SEGMENT: Spurrier wants the special teams or defense to score a TD in Saturday's game.
